Meharry official to serve with TECW

Gov. Bill Haslam has appointed Veronica Marable Johnson, director of programs and operations for the Center for Women’s Health Research at Meharry Medical College, to serve as an at-large member on the Tennessee Economic Council on Women.

Johnson’s service on the council, effective Nov. 8, will run through Aug. 31, 2014. The council develops and advocates solutions related to the economic and health needs of women in Tennessee.

Meharry’s Center for Women's Health Research is one of the nation's first research centers devoted exclusively to understanding how biology, race and economics contribute to women's health disparities.

Johnson (pictured), who earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting at Austin Peay State University, is active with the Cumberland Valley Girl Scouts, CABLE, the Urban League of Middle Tennessee Guild and Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
