Local University of Phoenix campus spared by company's cuts
Apollo Group, parent company of the University of Phoenix system, earlier this week said it will wind down operations at 115 of its campuses around the country as more students migrate online. The company's main local outpost, located on Marriott Drive near Nashville International Airport, will not be one of them, spokesman Alex Clark told NashvillePost.com. But smaller so-called learning centers in Murfreesboro and Clarksville will be phased out — meaning students who already are enrolled can finish their degree programs — as will Phoenix's campus in Knoxville. The latter had an enrollment of just 160; Nashville's is about 1,200.
