The cost of buying PSYS

Universal Health Services spent $18 million on its pending acquisition of Franklin-based Psychiatric Solutions during the second quarter, according to the company's quarterly report filed today. Indicating that the buy is an attractive deal for Pennsylvania-based UHS: The company also saw same-facility revenue in its behavioral health care segment rise $18 million, or 6 percent, on a 4.7 percent jump in adjusted admissions during the quarter.

The deal — valued at $3.1 billion — is expected to close during the fourth quarter, pending Federal Trade Commission approval.
